On 5 and 6 February, Valorial set up shop in Nantes as part of the European BioRural project! The occasion was the Bio360 trade fair, a key event in the bioeconomy and bioenergy sectors.

Invited by the European Scale-Up project, this event provided a great opportunity to engage with industry stakeholders, forge strategic links and unveil the launch of the ThERBN project, which follows on from BioRural.

Two intense days, punctuated by inspiring meetings and promising prospects for the future of the bioeconomy!

Bio360: The international trade fair for the bio-transition

Bio360 is a major international event dedicated to accelerating the bio-transition. It brings together 5,000 participants from 45 countries, 450 exhibitors from over 25 countries and more than 200 speakers from the bioenergy, bioeconomy and CO₂ removal sectors. A true platform for exchange and innovation, Bio360 fosters collaboration and the search for sustainable solutions to climate challenges. Its impact is particularly evident through seven parallel conferences, where experts and global leaders share their visions for accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable future.

BioRural: The European Bioeconomy Network

Over the course of these two days, BioRural captured the attention of those involved in the transition! Its approach, focused on creating a European bioeconomy network, generated considerable interest, confirming the importance of collaboration in accelerating the development of the bioeconomy.

Visitors to the exhibition were thus able to gain an insight into the project’s ambitions: to create a European network dedicated to the bioeconomy, centred around a key tool, the BioRural Toolkit. A promising initiative that paves the way for new synergies and sustainable innovations!

The strength of collaboration: Connected European projects

Invited by the European Scale-Up project, led by AC3A (Association of Chambers of Agriculture of the Atlantic Arc), BioRural took part in an immersive experience at the heart of bioeconomy innovations. This event provided an opportunity to engage with five European project leaders working to promote bio-based resources.

Among them:

  • Atelier du Biosourcé (France) – A cooperative hub in Normandy that pools resources and expertise to integrate plant-based materials into the construction industry.
  • COPANO (France) – Designs straw insulation panels without binders or chemical additives, offering a natural and effective solution for construction and renovation.
  • Ferme de Pommes Biocirculaire (Poland) – An educational orchard serving as an open-air laboratory to test and develop circular bioeconomy solutions, whilst offering practical training.
  • ANDALTEC (Spain) – A spin-off company from COMPOLIVE, specialising in the development of biocomposites made from olive pruning waste, already tested in the automotive and furniture sectors.
  • BIOLIZA (Spain) – Transforms olive waste into biochar and synthesis gas using advanced pyrolysis and gasification processes, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Launch of the ThERBN project

Valorial and AC3A have announced their involvement in the ThERBN (Thematic European Rural Bioeconomy Network) project, an ambitious initiative that will extend and build on the work of BioRural until 2027.

With ThERBN, the aim is clear: to take the development of a European network dedicated to the rural bioeconomy a step further, by offering new perspectives and greater synergies to accelerate the transition.

Stay tuned, the adventure has only just begun!
